Re Bedding & Pointing

Re-bedding and re-pointing are essential maintenance services focused on securing and sealing the ridge caps to the roof (the tiles running along the highest lines and hips of the roof). Re-bedding is the process of removing the existing, cracked, and crumbling cement mortar that forms the base, or 'bed', for the ridge caps. A fresh, new layer of structural sand and cement mortar is then laid down to solidly anchor and align the caps back in their correct position. Re-pointing is the next step: applying a highly flexible, weather-proof polymer compound over the exposed joints and edges of the new bedding. This modern, acrylic-based material seals the system, accommodating the natural thermal expansion and contraction of the roof without cracking, unlike traditional cement. This combined process is vital because it restores the structural stability of the roof, prevents water from seeping into the roof cavity, and ensures the ridge tiles remain firmly in place against high winds, thereby preventing leaks and extending the functional life of your entire roof system.

Valley Replacement

A Valley is one of the most critical, yet vulnerable, components of your roofing system. It is the angled channel lined with durable metal flashing, formed where two sloping sections of a roof meet. Its sole purpose is to act as a major drain channel, efficiently collecting and redirecting vast amounts of rainwater into the gutters. The importance of this component is paramount: without a properly functioning valley, water would accumulate, back up, and quickly seep beneath the tiles leading to immediate leaks, rotting timber, and structural damage. Replacement is crucial because the constant, heavy flow of water and the collection of debris accelerate the corrosion of the valley's protective lining. Once the metal begins to rust the main pathway for water is compromised, turning a vital drain into a persistent leak source that requires immediate professional replacement to safeguard your entire home.

Pressure Washing

For both terracotta tile and cement roofs, professional cleaning is more than just an aesthetic choice—it is essential preventative maintenance that protects your investment. The primary importance lies in safely eradicating pervasive organic growth such as moss, lichen, algae, and mould . These growths actively degrade your roof material by trapping moisture against the surface. On cement roofs, this moisture retention can lead to surface pitting and erosion over time. For terracotta tiles, the organic matter can lift the edges and push water underneath, potentially compromising the roof

Painting

Roof painting is a highly specialized process that is designed to re seal and extend the life of your tiles, not just a simple coat of colour. It is the final step of a restoration and can only be done once all other repairs and cleaning has been completed. A specialized sealer or primer coat is applied to bind the material and create a uniform base. Finally, two high-grade acrylic membrane topcoats are applied, typically using an airless sprayer for seamless coverage. This meticulous process is vital because the finished membrane serves as a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant barrier, providing UV protection, preventing water absorption, and guarding against material erosion, which collectively adds years to the roof's lifespan and dramatically boosts your home's curb appeal.

Rotten Timber Repairs

Replacing rotten roofline timber, such as scotia, is a repair process essential for preventing cascading damage. Scotia is typically the thin timber beading that provides crucial support for the cement mortar along the gables (the triangular sections of wall under a pitched roof). When this timber starts to rot due to moisture intrusion, it compromises its structural integrity, leading to a breakdown of the entire roof-to-wall junction. The process involves removing the loose or crumbling gable bedding and removing the decayed scotia before installing new, often pre-treated, timber in its place. This step is followed by Re-bedding and Pointing the gables. This replacement is paramount because rotten scotia allows the protective bedding and pointing to detach and fall away, creating a large, exposed entry point for water, pests (like possums and rats), and wind damage directly into the roof cavity. Timely replacement is the only way to restore the roof's complete barrier and prevent costly, widespread damage to the underlying frame.
